- : : : So why not a pizza box?
-
- : : Because low end systems are supposed to be cheap.. add the box, a few
- : : connectors, some more ships, and the price goes up, up, up, and the
- : : marketing types say "No! Its too expensive, no-one will buy that.."
-
- : You can buy a PC mini-tower *with* 200W PSU for 35UKP. The same money will
- : get you a 25W Amiga PSU and no case. Keyboards cost 10UKP
-
- : A good plan would be to put the new machines of whatever spec into
- : minitower cases and spray them a nice deep metallic blue. Then all the
- : options like more/bigger HD's, CD-ROM's, Tape drives etc. will cost the
- : same as the PC counterparts, as they will all be standard bits...
-
- This is a variation on my earlier point, but here goes anyway...
- Dr Kittel says that we can't have a mini-tower/pizza box 1200 because the
- case adds too much to the cost. I'm a bit sceptical about that, but lets
- just take that as a given. He also says that the 1200HD is so expensive
- because it can only take 2 1/2 inch drives. Fair enough.
-
- But! By using a mini-tower case AT could fit the larger, *cheaper* 3 1/2
- inch drives - surely this would *at least* offset the difference in case
- cost? Not to mention all the other add-ons that could be supplied at
- lower prices, or the more professional styling...
